Raphaël
Stop, Look, Listen (Heavenly Sweetness) 2011, Belgium - French Reissue
Finally reissued by french label Heavenly Sweetness, this little known jazz album masterpiece was recorded in Belgium in 1972 by American born pianist Phil Raphaël with the help of belgium top notch jazzmen. This brilliant album has a really unique and seldom heard sound melting different musical styles like be-bop, deep vocal jazz and rock. Many musicians tried their hand at fusion around that time, but this album is unequalled in its lyrical, poetic chemistry. Stop, look, listen…

Probably one of my fav' belgian fusion right behind Placebo finally reissued from the Original master tapes by my Heavenly Sweetness friends. Splendid space jazz funk all along. Including the fantastic fierce uptempo "Remake" also worth to check "Peace plaese", "Utopic Cities" & "Open Air". Pleasent Fender Rhodes by Michel Herr, Trumpet by Richard Rousselet (also playing on Placebo sessions), tight funky drums and loud bass ... All you need in a Euro jazz funk Holy Grail ! Raks : 17 Golden Garage psych nuggets from The iranian 60s scene 2008, Irak
Very few iranian bands recorded rock music in the 60s. This out of print compilation includes some fantastic tunes that you probably never heard before. A really raw funky cover of "Respect" by Googoosh, fantastic deep eastern guitar & percussion on the Bollywood sounding "Dance-Music" by Penahi, or "Indian Rebls" by the iranian Beatles style group "The Rebels". But my fav' is the psych funk "Hadjime Khali" by Kourosh ... many more good tracks to discover !
