During the 1960s and 1970s, Guinean singer Amara Touré was a key vocalist with some of Senegal's most celebrated orchestras, including Tropical Jazz, Star Band, and Dexter Johnson's Super Star. In 1980, he recorded his only solo LP in Gabon with Orchestre Massako. Like his earlier singles, the album is a masterclass in Afro-Cuban music, blending infectious Latin rhythms with West African melodies. It closes on a spectacular note with the psychedelic pan-African anthem "Africa," a powerful and uplifting finale to an almost flawless record.
