French singer, guitarist, and composer Jean-Claude Oliver, a renowned musician of his era, was possibly one of the first sitar owners in Paris in the late 1960s. He worked with and composed for many of the biggest names in French chanson. Serge Gainsbourg hired him to play on the B-side of the Pacha soundtrack, "Psychasténie", and he also recorded several sought-after library music albums.
In 1968, he released two singles on the French Bagatelle label under the name The Derboukas. We are offering "Caravan March / La Danse de la Nubienne", an exceptionally rare 7" featuring two outstanding instrumental tracks that blend sitar, lush strings, and oriental percussion into a unique fusion of psychedelic baroque pop.
Fans of Baroque Jazz Trio, The Mercators – Musical Environments, or Robert Palatine – Danses et Chants de la Méditerranée will find plenty to enjoy here.
