Released in 1976, Allée des Tilleuls by Édition Spéciale is a forgotten gem of French jazz-rock fusion. Somewhere between the theatrical flair of Ange and the experimental drive of Magma, the band blends prog, groove, and jazz with style and confidence.

The album shines thanks to keyboardist Ann Balester’s rich, jazz-inspired playing, and a rhythm section that’s clearly influenced by bands like Weather Report. The result is a tight, warm, and funky sound that still feels fresh today.

One track, in particular, has stood the test of time: “Mr. Business.” With its catchy groove and sophisticated feel, the song found a second life in 2018 when Neapolitan duo Nu Genea reworked it as “Parev’ Ajere.” Their version brought the track to dancefloors around the world and introduced Édition Spéciale to a new generation of listeners.

Nearly 50 years later, Allée des Tilleuls remains a vibrant and forward-thinking album—proof that great music doesn’t age, it just waits to be rediscovered.
