We are very pleased to offer for sale this truly unique artefact from the French jazz scene. Without exaggeration, this is probably one of the rarest French jazz 7" records ever released.
Recorded in 1965 for an exhibition organised by a now-defunct Parisian art gallery on the Rive Gauche, only 100 numbered copies were produced. Each copy was issued with a complete art book / leaflet featuring ten beautiful printed artworks by artist Jean Berthier, alongside silkscreened poems by French writer Jean-Jacques Lévêque.
The music was composed by legendary Swiss jazz pianist George Gruntz, joined by another Swiss giant, drummer Daniel Humair, with renowned French bassist Guy Pedersen completing the trio.
“Visage d’Ombre” is a superb modal piece, while “3+2=1” is a powerful hard-bop track that strongly recalls the spirit of the Jazz-Hip Trio.
I honestly don’t know how many collectors are even aware of this record, but it is without doubt a seriously overlooked gem in the jazz collectors’ circuit.
Condition:
– Leaflet with silkscreen prints: perfect condition
– This original copy is numbered n°94
– Outer sleeve: very nice overall, with only a tiny tear at the bottom of the back sleeve
– Record: strong VG++ / EX. It doesn’t appear to have been played much, although the original pressing quality itself is not audiophile-grade
