A very uncommon Egyptian release by composer, accordionist and arranger Hassan Abu Al Saoud, bringing together traditional Egyptian melodies, orchestral pop, electronic keyboards and the rhythmic sounds of the period.
The LP includes “Salma Ya Salama”, the celebrated composition by Sayed Darwish, originally written in 1919 and subsequently recorded by numerous Arab artists, most famously by Dalida.
Another particularly interesting track is “Tigy Ya Hawa”, a genuine slice of Egyptian disco, driven by its rhythmic arrangement and electronic instrumentation. Alongside the title track “Rasputin”, “Trik Trak” and “Al Souq Al Horra”, it shows the more dance-oriented side of Abu Al Saoud’s work.
A revealing example of the way older Egyptian repertoire coexisted with the modern electronic and disco sounds of the period. Original Egyptian pressing on Sout El Hob.
