Joe Pass – Guitar Interludes (Discovery Records – DS-100 – US – 1969)

250,00

Ultra hard to find first pressing of this now cult album by legendary guitarist Joe Pass, originally released on Discovery in 1969. Guitar Interludes stands apart in his vast discography, sitting in a unique zone between acoustic jazz, sunshine pop, easy listening and soul jazz, far from the classic bebop image usually associated with Pass.
Half introspective guitar interludes, half softly grooving pop-soul arrangements, the record feels like an unexpected detour — intimate, slightly odd, yet deeply charming. A record that slipped under the radar at the time but was later rediscovered by diggers for its mood, textures and cinematic feel.
The real gem here is “A Time For Us”, a delicate and melancholic interpretation of the Romeo & Juliet theme. Its warm chords, subtle groove and dreamy atmosphere made it a natural sample source for beatmakers, turning the track into an underground favourite. Sampled by several producers over the years, many believe J Dilla was among the first — if not the first — to flip this beautiful piece, giving it a second life through hip-hop.
Today, original 1969 Discovery pressings are extremely scarce and highly sought after, both by jazz collectors and sample hunters alike. A discreet yet essential record, bridging late-60s studio jazz elegance with modern beat culture.
