Lucien Joly Quintet – Lucien Joly Quintet (Solo Gammes Productions – 1002 - 1986)

150.00 / Sold Out

The small island of Martinique, in the french west indies is a breeding ground for gifted jazzmen : Marius Cultier, Louis Xavier, George Edouard Nouel, Eugène Mona, Bib Monville, Jean-Claude Montredon ... Saxophonist Lucien Joly is one of them. His really hard to find first album in quintet is a fusion between latin, modal & contemporary jazz with some really serious tunes like "Hibiscus". this deep jazz tune is the highlight of the record. "Laura Laura" is really in the same vein with incredible solo piano by José Lancry (Enco-Ti-Tac / Madjumbé). "Caraib Band" & "Terre Saint Ville" are also a great contemporary jazz track with a strong latin feel. A pretty solid caribbean jazz album, reminding me a lot of V.S Quartet (we have reissued), that really don't show up often in clean condition.

Record is strong VG++ / Sleeve is VG+ (wear on spines)
