Patrick Jean-Marie – Atika (JMP Production - Guadeloupe - 1981)
€790.00 / Sold Out
Pianist Patrick Jean-Marie (Alain Jean Marie's brother) is a true icon of the “Free Wave” of this era, a musical movement which marked a decisive turning point in the musical research of Guadeloupe, between Jazz, Gwoka, Biguine and Latin music.
It took me years to find a spare copy of this cult Atika” album, a collage of tapes taken on a mono tape recorder placed on the floor of the rehearsal room in the abandoned school of Grand-Camp in Guadeloupe. The raw sound and searing music attest to the richness and musical creativity of the late 1970s and early 1980s on the island. At the time, the album was self-produced and distributed by the composer himself, and it was released as an LP in 200 copies in 1981. Part of the stock was destroyed, making the album even more legendary in Guadeloupe.
Includes some of the most beautiful caribbean jazz tune with a touch of spirituality like on "Die Soleil" , "Independance" "Karika", "Fatig" some great Gwo Ka tunes like on "Folklore".
Record is VG+ (with surface marks, plays well) / Sleeve is VG (cut corner / wear on back)
