he second time I’ve come across this ultra-rare, funky French vocal pop 7-inch, by an obscure band directed by Jean Bouchéty.
Bouchéty composed several film scores and was also a highly regarded arranger who worked with many major French variety artists of the era, including Michel Polnareff, Eddy Mitchell, Claude François, Éric Charden, Nicoletta, Michel Fugain, Mireille Mathieu, and Dalida.
“Il était une fois la Danse” is a fantastic groovy vocal-pop track, opening with a killer Latin-funk intro before breaking into banging drums and percussion, a great organ solo, and unison female-and-male vocals. A seriously funky and obscure French gem.
The flip side is a French cover of the British vocal group Guys ’n’ Dolls’ “There’s a Whole Lot of Loving.”
