Richard Dunbar – Clear-Eyed Vision (Jahari Records – JR101 – US – 1981)

220,00

Debut album by Richard Dunbar, a French horn player emerging from the New York free jazz scene. Born in Brooklyn on May 22, 1944, Dunbar began studying the French horn in high school — and never put it down. Alongside the horn, he was also known to play bass guitar and the shakeray, an African percussion instrument.
His first documented recording appearance dates back to 1968 on University of the Streets by Bill Dixon. He later appeared as a sideman with adventurous players such as Sam Rivers, Earl Freeman, and Ted Daniel.
In the 1980s, Dunbar founded his own independent imprint, Jahari Records, releasing five albums under his own name.

Clear-Eyed Vision is the first album in that series — a truly beautiful and inspired work. Not strictly “free,” but leaning more toward avant-garde jazz, it unfolds with spiritual depth and expressive clarity.

The album includes the esoteric spoken-word / jazz piece with the wonderfully cosmic title: “Moving Thru A Monastery Herein Contained Graduation Proclamation ‘Ending The Fires Of Infinity Free Relations Guardian Of The Portal.’”
A deep, introspective, and highly creative statement from a singular voice of the underground.

If you are into Sun Ra, Arthur Doyle, or Sunny Murray, this record is definitely for you.
Pretty hard-to-find, confidential/private pressing.
Both sleeve and record are in strong NM / NM condition.
