Rare private-press modern jazz gem, self-produced by drummer Thomas Crosby and bassist James Benton, recorded in Wisconsin in 1986 and very likely pressed in extremely small quantities.
The lineup is impressive, featuring a strong cast of musicians, including several pianists such as the legendary John Hicks, alongside tenor sax icon Steve Grossman.
Musically, this is a deep and consistently strong modal jazz album from start to finish. Tracks like “Luminous” and “Book’s Bossa” stand out, but there are no weak moments here—the whole record flows beautifully with depth, restraint, and a timeless spiritual edge.
Still criminally overlooked, this is exactly the kind of album that deserves a proper reissue. We’ve recorded 6 sound clips out of the 9 tracks—don’t sleep on it.
